A desert comes alive Though Namibia’s southern region appears barren at first sight, it is vibrant with life. In the south, you may rive through the rocky Namib Naukluft Park to encounter wild horses near Helmeringhausen close to the historical Duwisib Castle. This castle is located at the edge of the Namib desert amidst camel-thorn trees. Rehoboth, Keetmannshoop, Mariental and Maltahöhe are further oases through the South of Namibia, where you will pass by quivertrees and weaverbird’s nests. You may wish to climb the red golden dunes of Sossusvlei dunes at sunrise or discover colonial trails in the costal city of Lüderitz. Take a hiking trail through the Fishriver Canyon and bathe in the hot springs at Ais Ai, a relaxing time designed to fill you with new energies.
Trip to the South of Namibia This part of Namibia is ideal for studying the survival of both plants and animals. Many desert plants grow underground. Antelopes, Zebras and giraffes are specially adapted for minimal water. The eland, a type of antelope has a special circulatory system designed to cool its head in the hot desert head, its unique survival system for this harsh climate. At Sossusvlei see how the desert comes alive by putting a small amount of water on what looks like a dead plant. Almost instantly, the plant grows, doubling its size in just a few minutes. In the loneliness of the Kalahari there are a many guesthouses and lodges, providing luxurious comfort and tasty buffets of local delicacies.
