The sound of silence

This is a small 4-day desert trip to the highest dunes in the world, the Sossusvlei. You can make it part of your stay in Namibia and add more items if you wish.

Itinerary

Day 1       Swakopmund/ Sossusvlei

Your tour guide will pick you up from your Windhoek hotel in the early morning hours. For the next 5 hours, your guide will drive you  from Windhoek through the Khomas Highlands towards Sesriem Canyon (see photo at right).
 
Overnight at Weltvrede Guesthouse. This place in the quietness desert is famous for its generous buffets featuring a variety of game dishes. Dinner and Breakfast included.
 

Day 2       Sossusvlei

Climbing Sossusvlei in the early morning hoursArise before sunrise especially to watch the colourful dunes change at dawn. Enter the area with your car along a tarred road, then switch for the final five kilometres to one of the park’s a 4 x 4 vehicles. From there you might want to take off your shoes to feel the warm, soft sand cascading over your toes. Have a picnic breakfast as you rest under the shade trees before climbing the dunes. Depending on your pace that might take 35 to 50 minutes.
 
After lunch the park service’s vehicle will take you back to your car. From there proceed to Swakopmund at the Atlantic Coast via Solitaire, through Gaub Pass, traversing the Rostock Mountains, via Kuiseb Pass. Close to Walvisbay you will pass by the lagoon with pink flamingoes. Breakfast and lunch included.
 

Day 3       Swakopmund

Arrive in Swakopmund by late afternoon. Swakopmund is known for its fresh fish. You may want to book a reservation at the famous seafood restaurant called "The Tug". It is located on the beach close to the famous "Jetty". African Desk could also make the reservation for you. Book early though, since this restaurant is usually fully booked well in advance.
Overnight at Guesthouse Sea Breeze, Breakfast included.
 

Day 4       Swakopmund

Feeding pelicans on the Atlantic OceanWhile in Swakopmund you may either take for a boat trip from Walvis Bay on a Dolphine Cruise, ride a camel, go for duneboarding, hot air ballooning or a desert trip to see the oldest desert plants called Welwitchia mirablilis. Or visit the Kristall Galerie, home of Namibia’s biggest Gem stone gallery. Karakulia Spinning and weaving is also available and, of course, you may join us for a visit to the DRC township. All this is optional and you can discuss this with your guide. Overnight at Guesthouse Sea Breeze. Breakfast included.

Included: Airconditioned Car (Toyota Condor 2.4 Benzin 4x4, Bus 5 Seater, Radio/Cass., unlimited km), fuel, experienced tour guide, accommodation, meals as per itinerary and entry fees.

Excluded: International flights, drinks, personal expenses, tips and telephone calls.
