Comfort-Tour Central and North Namibia

A 16-days trip to South, Central and Northnamibia for all those who enjoy comfort, culture and high standard lodges. Including a hot-air-balloon trip to the dunes of Sossusvlei and a scenic flight alongside the Skeleton coast.

Itinerary:


Windhoek- Sossusvlei - Swakopmund - Cape Cross - Twyfelfontein - Opuwo - Etosha - Waterberg - Okahandja-Windhoek


Day 1    Windhoek

Arrive at Windhoek International Airport and be welcomed by an African Desk tourguide. Depart from the Airport to Windhoek.

Overnight at Villa Verdi in Windhoek, an exquisite place with comfortable high standard rooms, secluded gardens, a large swimming pool and views of the Auas mountains. Within a five-minutes walk you are in the city centre of Namibia's capital Windhoek.


Day 2    Sossusvlei

Climbing Sossusvlei dunesAfter breakfast depart for Sossusvlei. Drive through Mariental on route to Maltahöhe. Visit the Duwiseb Castle built in 1909 in the middle of the desert by Captain von Duwiseb for his wife. After lunch carry on to Sesriem canyon and depart for Dune 45 late afternoon. (Champagne on the dunes is the speciality)
Overnight at Kulala Lodge/ Sossusvlei Lodge.


Day 3    Sossusvlei

Early morning departure from Kulala Lodge for Hot Air Ballooning over the Dunes. The view is of the best in the world. We cannot think of a better way of seeing the dunes….The complete trip starts with breakfast on the ground, then everyone helps to get the balloon ready for the ballooning. When landing you will be met by your guide and taken on a 4x4 tour direct to the end of Sossusvlei. Climb the highest dune in the world and enjoy a light lunch on top of the dune.
Overnight at Kulala Lodge/ Sossusvlei Lodge.


Day 4    Swakopmund

Karakulia weavery SwakopmundAfter breakfast depart for Swakopmund at the Atlantic ocean via Walvisbay. There are thousands of pink flamingoes in the lagoon of the seaport Walvisbay. Do a tour of Swakopmund, maybe visit the Kristall Galerie with Gemstones of Namibia, or watch the spinning and weaving of carpets in the Karakulia Weavery. Overnight at an Italian guest house - Sea Breeze in Swakopmund. The guesthouse is situated very close to the ocean with very helpful and friendly hosts.


Day 5   Swakopmund

After breakfast take a trip to the Welwitchia Mirabilis, the oldest desert plant (about 1 500 year old), stroll close to the "Moon landscape" and have a snack in Goanikontes - the Oase of the desert. This tour lasts about 4 hours. Drive back to Swakopmund and see Namibia from bird's eye-view: Rundflug SkelettküsteDo a scenic flight over the Skeleton Coast to see shipwrecks, the seal colony and Namibias Highest mountain - the massive Brandberg - aswell as Spitzkoppe on your way back. The flight will take about three hours. This we would recommend strongly - it is a much better way of seeing the Coast line than going by car.
Dinner at a special fish restaurant. Overnight at a Guesthouse in Swakopmund.


Day 6    Vingerklip

Early morning departure after breakfast for Damaraland. Visit Twyfelfontein, the large rock slabs and bushman engravings on them. You will also pass the socalled "Organ Pipes" and the "Burnt Mountain". Organ pipes are dolorite pillars in the desert that look like organ pipes. The Burnt Mountain is part of a 12 km long east and west mountain rising some 200 m above surrounding landscape.
Overnight at Vingerklip Lodge or guestfarm.


Day 7    Opuwo

Ovahimba in OpuwoAfter breakfast depart for Opuwo, land of the Himba tribe. As this is a long drive there will be only short stops on your way to drink, have light lunch and continue for Opuwo. Arrive late afternoon in Opuwo.
Overnight at Ohakana Lodge.


Day 8    Opuwo

Early morning Departure after breakfast to Himba Village. You will be able to see their lifestyle, e.g. how the women put butterfat and powdered oxides to their bodies to protect their skin. You can ask a lot of questions through your interpreter.
Overnight at Ohakana Lodge.


Day 9    Etosha

Depart Opuwo after breakfast to visit Etosha National Park. This area mainly consists of grass and bush savanna and keeps a variety of animals. You can visit the waterhole throughout the day and in the evening.
Overnight at Okaukeujo Rest Camp.


Day 10    Etosha


Löwen in EtoshaSpend another day in Etosha, doing early morning game drive and evening game viewing from the bench at the Rest Camp's waterhole. Okaukeujo is the waterhole that is most favourite to see lions taking a zebra or springbok. Overnight at Okaukeujo and here your guide will prepare a "potjiekos" meal in the evening, which is the dish of most rural people living in Namibia. It tastes super and you will ask for more.

Day 11    Etosha

Early morning departure from Okaukeujo driving through the park to the eastern gate, Namutoni and overnight at Mokuti Lodge - one of the noblest adresses in Namibia.


Day 12    Etosha

Giraffe  at Mokuti LodgeOne day of relaxation and game viewing at Mokuti Lodge. At times Giraffes are gracefully wandering between the bungalows. For your entertainment there is a Boma, Lounge, Marula Bar, Pool Bar, Oshaaluwata Curio Chop and two Swimming Pools. The buffet offers a variety of mouth watering titbits - among them medailons of Kudo or eiland, fresh fruits, cakes or local vegetables like butternuts and pumpkins. The Ontouka Reptile Park is also nearby.
Overnight at Mokuti Lodge.


Day 13    Waterberg

Leave for Tsumeb and pass by Lake Otjikoto, meaning "too deep for cattle to drink" in the Herero language. You may also pass by the Mine Museum in Tsumeb. Drive through to Waterberg Rest Camp and overnight. Waterberg was the site of one of the major turning points in the story of Namibia and its people. It was here, on the foothills, that the Herero people lost their last and greatest battle against the German Colonial forces at the beginning of the century. The Herero were driven across the Kalahari desert into Botswana, which was a British protectorate.
You can do walking tours, a game drive on top of the Plateau to watch zebra, springbok or oryx-antelope and take a bath in the pool.
Overnight at Waterberg Rest Camp.


Day 14    Windhoek

SpringböckeDepart after breakfast for Windhoek via Okahandja. The woodcarver's market is the biggest in the country with sculptures from stone, woven baskets and a variety of woodcraft. If time permits you can take a bath in the hot springs of Gross Barmen situated on the main road 25 km outside of Okahandja.
Arrive late afternoon in Windhoek for overnight stay.


Day 15    Windhoek

A last day in Namibia's capital Windhoek. You may do some shoppings, stroll through the city, do a township tour to Katutura or get an African hairstyle.
Overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 16   Windhoek

Transfer to International Airport Windhoek


Included in this tour:

Airconditioned car and fuel, experienced indigenious and multilingual guide (speaking English, German, Afrikaans and Otjiherero), sightseeing as per trip. All meals (also at restcamps) and "potjiekos", a traditional Namibian meat stew. Entry fees into the parks, high standard Lodges/ Rest Camp accommodation, Hot Air ballooning, Skeleton Coast Scenic flight.

Excluded: Drinks, personal expenses, tips and telephone calls.
