Desert feelings on a camel hump Camel riding is not really part of Namibian culture, but it's a whole lot of fun. Climb up on a camel, wrap a cloth around your head, and head out for a one hour ride in the Namib Desert. Farm owner Elke Erb takes children who are too small for the camels on cart rides with her "Zesels"- a cross between a zebra and a donkey. The farm is located about 14 kilometres from Swakopmund. Local children sometimes celebrate their birthday here, surrounded by ducks, geese, rabbits and turtles. A camel ride, of course, is always a highlight. Rates for camel rides in Namibia:
15 minutes: 5 Euro/ 7 US $ 30 minutes: 10 Euro/ 14 US $ 1 hour: 20 Euro/ 28 US $ Children: 50 percent off
