The office
African Desk was launched as a travel agency in Namibia in September 2001 and is located in the centre of Swakopmund, a small town at the Atlantic Coast. The business is operated by Elizabeth de Beer, an expert in the travel sector with more than 16 years of experience.Elizabeth de Beer has made a name for herself as a safari booking officer at Trip Travel in Windhoek and the Swakopmund Information Office. She is a mother of three children and culturally rooted with the Damara people. As a member of a African Desk office in Swakopmund, a multilingual country with a colonial past, Elizabeth is fluent in English (Namibia's national language), Afrikaans and Damara as well as having a basic knowledge of German. Part of Elizabeth's vision is to let travellers experience the African everyday life and culture.
The Team "I was born in Swakopmund and grew up with my grandparents on a farm called "Vlakbank". It was very common in those days to stay with grandparents while parents went to work in town. There were a lot of sheep and cows. Milk, cream, butter and biltong (dried sausage) were produced. This farm was close to the riverbank high up in the Namib Desert and has today become part of a Nature Reserve. It has been the heritage of my great-grandfather since 1914. Because it is so peaceful, farm life should never be forgotten with its unspoiled nature and all the many stories that we were told by our grandparents. I would like to share this experience with you as the traveller."
